Last time I heard, chem lights were broken. You use them in your thrown items, which you toggle with the 'f' key by default.

I just fell off a castle roof like an idiot. Lost my pretty backpack, all my cooked meat, but winchester, and a ton of water.

The worst part? I got it all on video. Sigh.

Note to self: When the Zombie Apocalypse comes, find Kaaso, Gowan (except when he's standing atop castles), and Ararius and cling to them for support.

They will be well prepared.

Aww man, that sucks, Gowan. So, when you die you lose everything?

Has any1 honestly thought about 'zombie preparedness'?? I have quite a few friends who actually been stocking up on weapons, ammo, and basic survival stuff. haha.

I'm just starting my gun hobby. So far, I have a Ruger SR22 and a Glock 19.

I just brought this up cuz of Luri's comment. haha

I have not been stocking supplies or anything -- I do have a ginormous book of basic "country living skills" that I bought because it appears to be the ultimate post-apocalypse how-to manual, with small-scale farming and livestock information, instructions of preserving food, essential first-aid, basic instructions for building a house (including a hobbit-hole sort of dwelling which would be both easily camouflaged and easy to keep the temperature regulated in). I consider it my most important piece of apocalypse-readiness equipment, and so it remains in easy reach, on top of my encyclopedia of mythological creatures and history of Atlantis. I'm not crazy, I use them as writing resources ._.

I also haven't bought a gun yet, but I'm bound to wind up with a little .22 rifle sooner or later...

Part of me feels like a total paranoid now because of what I'm about to post but:

I actually do have contingencies planned in such a case. My own last will and testament includes the fact I am to be creamated and my ashes spread amongst each place I've lived to ensure my body will never ressurect as an undead. Additionally, my fiancee and her parents that we take care of are all gun fanactics so I honestly am not even sure of the entirity of the collection we have at the house. We also have enough MREs (actual military ones due to pretty much every male in both our families' having served/still serving) to feed 10 people for 6 months. I'm not a huge gun fan (I do shoot occassionally and am a pretty decent shot), but I am a huge crossbow fan fo which I have 4 and about 100 bolts for just in case. Me and my fiancee's room is actually a concrete addiotion to the rest of the house and the only three entrances are: the door to the rest of the house which is solid oak, the window that is in the middle of being transformed into a cat cage (we're adding on a huge caged and barred box so the cats can 'go outside' without us worryign about them running off) and the external door that has a two hundred pound oak wardrobe in front of it that her grandmother left her. We actually live about a half a mile from a graveyard and I've done told her that if anythign happens the first thing I'm doing is torching that place. We used to use karosine lamps in case of power outages (now we have about 4 mobile generators) and about 20 gallons of fuel for them.

As for survival resources, we raise pigs and rabbits for eating, have a milking goat, her and her parents still own and used to operate a farm up north, and I've done quite a bit of survival training via actual outings to survive off the land with my dad before he passed back in '05. I actually feel really strange admitting all this... but, I was brought up to be prepared even if the occurance is unlikely >.>

EDIT: and to answer your question about the game:

Yes, everytime you die you have to respawn a new character with nothing but the starter set of survival gear again. You get dropped off once again along the coast and have to regather a stockpile of supplies and equipment and make your way to whereever it is you were usign as a hideout.

If the zombie outbreak happens crossbows would be better since you'd eventually run out of ammo for guns. Bolts you can rip back out and reuse!

...only downside is they take longer to load, so don't run into a big zombie group!

Also, when are you guys playing? The only FPS I've played on PC was SWAT, which I liked, but I'm not sure if I could get into Day-Z or not... just thinking about it occasionally.

I've never had a problem a good blaster couldn't fix.

Don't know why this didn't post earlier.

We usually play whenever a couple of us are all on steam at the same time, but the videos I've taken have mostly been shot between 11:00 pm and 2:00 am EST -- by sheer coincidence, I assure you.

If you aren't familiar with the ballistics model in ARMA, I would recommend spending some time in armory mode, or else something like this might happen:

Anyway, if you search on steam for "Sherlock," you should find me -- I'm the one with the red handprint for an avatar. I think I'm the only one with that avatar and that name...

Picked Arma 2: Combo Ops up today for ~$17 on Steam.

Spent some time in the basic training and armory modes to get the hang of it before hopping into the mod.

Loaded up to pitch black dead of night... Not a good start.

Oh god. XD I would've just turned it off.

A friend told me about an article where he loaded up in the middle of a gang that shot him in the knee and demanded he be their slave in exchange for food, weapons, and protection or that they would kill him.

The guy went for it and he was always sent in first to scout things before everyone else while they would cover him from long range.

At one point, he had to go somewhere where he wasn't going to be in visual range of the gang (so no cover fire, kind of scary for him!) and then he suddenly heard gunfire from ANOTHER group that wasn't his.

When he got back, all he saw was the dead body of one of the gang people and everyone else was gone. ^^;

Kinda crazy! Makes me wish FPS didn't make me sick. :<

Huh, just skimmed this for the first time. Looks pretty interesting and I'm a sucker for zombie post apocalyptic stuff.

Finally ran into another player... who immediately unloaded a silenced pistol into me. To loot - all of the nothing on my person. Respawned close enough for them to hit me again with a rifle. Crawled away bleeding with a broken bone and concussion. Guys (both in ghillie suits) ran over calling "Friendly?".

"Yeah. Friendly. Hey, can you just finish me off?"

Instead they patched me up and said "You've got 5 seconds to get out of our sight."

On the plus-side, after I respawned (again) I found a hatchet.
